Current River Conditions

April 22, 2024

Flows from Cheesman Reservoir have been fluctuating a lot recently. This is no surprise, but still timing a good day on the water has required heavy surveillance on the flow charts. Luckily, the spring BWO hatch has been so phenomenal as of late that the fish often look past the goofy flows. Nymphing is going to lead to the most success on an average day, but with so many BWO's on the water, dry fly fishing can be great if it's the right conditions. Look for cloudy, rainy, snowy, and/or cold days for the best dry fly fishing. The worm bite is also hot right now. This time of the year the rivers receive an influx of water from numerous sources. This often leads to worms and other big food sources getting knocked around more than normal. Aquatic and terrestrial worms will be in the water and the trout take advantage! You'll oftentimes catch fish that are so full on worms that they'll be puking them.
