Towering ancient trees, labyrinthine waterways, and the distant calls of howler monkeys set the stage for an angling experience like no other.
Formerly part of the headwaters of the Rio Negro in the Brazilian Amazon, the Pasimoni River is renowned for its Temensis peacock bass, often weighing over 20 pounds. Unlike other rivers, it has seen minimal tourist fishing since the 1990s, making it South America’s prime location for giant peacock bass.

Getting to Bogota - Pasimoni
International flights to Bogota are simpler than they might seem. There are numerous airlines that fly to Bogota from Denver daily without flying overnight. Once we land in Bogota, the Afloat team will transport us to our hotel, which is included in the cost of the trip.
The next morning we'll be picked up by the team and transported to the regional airport, where we'll take our domestic flight to a Colombian town near Venezuela on a a 2-hour direct flight on a private Beechcraft 1900.
Upon arrival, enjoy lunch before embarking on a 3-4 hour speedboat ride to Pasimoni Lodge on the Pasimoni River.
Check-in and settle into your accommodations at Pasimoni Lodge, preparing for your fishing expedition.
Fly Fishing in the Jungle!
The Amazon Rainforest is a vast ecosystem larger than the continental United States. With such a large area, there's an endless number of fish species to target. Our trip with Pasimoni Lodge will be focused on two peacock bass species (temensis and Orinoco (butterfly), with the temensis taking the show! In addition to these species, there's an endless number of other species that can be encountered during the trip. Most notably are sardinata, black pacu, arowana, and piranha. This trip is for the streamer junkie who loves big eats and even bigger fights! Peacock bass are known as some of the hardest fighting fish in the world, even in comparison to saltwater species. These fish are a whole other caliber that bring great smiles and sore arms to those who are lucky enough to tangle with them.
Gear for Peacock Bass
9 and 10wt rods matched with an appropriate sized reel that has a powerful drag. Peacock bass are hard fighters and love diving into thick brush and wood, strip hard and don’t let go! Leaders are made of a straight section of 50 or 60lb fluorocarbon to keep them from going into the thick stuff. Specialty jungle fly lines will be a must, having a tropical rated fly line with an aggressive taper to turn over big streamers is a necessity. Floating, intermediate, and sinking lines are highly recommended; Rio Warmwater Predator series is our recommendation.
