Dry Fly Fishing

Rods:
Having a dedicated rod towards dry fly fishing can mean everything when it comes to converting eats on rising fish. Both delicacy and accuracy are key advantages when comparing a dry fly specific rod to a do-it-all rod. We recommend a 4wt for your day-to-day dry fly fishing (excluding terrestrial and stonefly dry fly fishing). Determining the length of your dry fly rod predominantly depends on the size of the river you are fishing. Generally, in smaller rivers you want to fish a shorter rod, and a longer rod for larger rivers. The 8’6” length is the perfect do-all length for all sizes of rivers when dry fly fishing.

Reels:
Since dry fly rods typically weigh less, having a lighter reel that is smaller in size is ideal to properly balance the rod. With that in mind, in this list we have the correct sized reels to make your outfit perfectly balanced. Aside from cosmetics, when spending more money on a reel you’re getting a higher grade drag system and better durability.

Fly Lines:
A fly line with a delicate taper and long head is ideal for proper fly presentations. In this list we have a few of our favorite dry fly lines.
