Diversity in Northern Patagonia
The ecosystem that Spring Creek Lodge calls home is filled with endless rivers, lakes, creeks, and species. Each day will offer something different, including overnight camping missions on remote stretches of water!
If you love dry fly fishing, this is the trip for you. Endless mayfly and caddis fly species hatch on a daily basis, but the real gem is the terrestrial fishing. Large hoppers, cicadas, and ant patterns are favorites here. But when the hatches are slow, streamer fishing in this area is fantastic and usually produces the larger fish each trip.
Trophy rainbow, brook, and brown trout call these waters home and oftentimes are caught in the same waters. However if big brook trout are on your agenda, fishing the large lakes is your best option!
Gear for Patagonian Trout
Just like any trout fishing scenario, many rods are used and recommended while fishing in Patagonia. In the northern region that Spring Creek Lodge calls home, there's a wide variety of rivers and lake sizes to fish. Having multiple setups is best to cover your grounds.
We prefer a 5wt for technical dry fly fishing or for fishing the smaller waters. A 6wt is the do-all rod for Patagonia, and if you were going to show up with just one, this would be it. Small dry flies, terrestrials, nymphing, and streamers can all be thrown on the 6wt, although we primarily use it for nymphing and terrestrials. For streamer fishing, we prefer a 7wt.
Getting to the Lodge
Numerous airlines fly from Denver to Buenos Aires, as well as Buenos Aires to Corrientes. Tryston has a detailed flight itinerary that should be followed due to the long distance travelled. In addition to the recommended flight itinerary, hotel selection in Buenos Aires will also be recommended to make transport between both airports seamless.
